Big Kids

Any band who choose to complement their attire with signature Burger King crowns will find it hard to go unnoticed in the music industry today.

Why the crowns, you ask? Nothing other than the simple pleasure of alliteration. Meet BIGkids, the talented music duo from Camden, consisting of Ben Hudson (aka Mr Hudson) and Rosie Bones (the daughter of television presenter and former musician, Bill Oddie.

The duo were unleashed on fans in march this year, following the release of their first single, 'Drum in Your Chest’, which you may have heard as the soundtrack for Stella McCartney's Adidas Olympics Collection. With the debut album, 'Never Grow Up' released this October, what better opportunity to introduce the band to an array of new fans.

'Trash Your Bedroom' is the response when asked to describe their sound in three words. As this statement (and the band's name) suggests, BIGkids don't take themselves too seriously, epitomising a band who make music for the purpose of having fun.

Having written all of their own songs, the album promises to be original and full of energy. Bursting with catchy and upbeat tunes, the pair's unique combination of vocals are accompanied by a mishmash of piano, drums, guitar and saxophone.

Mr Hudson quickly made his mark on the music scene, picking up a MOBO Award for best song 'Playing With Fire' alongside NDubz in 2010. having also collaborated with the likes of Jay Z and Kayne West, he spotted something special in Rosie after seeing her perform as part of a three-piece with identical twins. Although there are plans to make music as Mr Hudson in the future, BIGkids remains Ben's focus for the time being. Rosie's sultry and unique-sounding vocals make it hard not the raise the question - how is she not equally well-known on the music scene? Sounding, in my opinion, much like Shingai Shoniwa (Noisettes' lead singer) the pair complement each other perfectly.

BIGkids have previously supported Panic! at the Disco, and share the same quirky image and catchy sound. Currently touring in several intimate venues across the UK, the band are set for big things. Described as Gorrilaz meets The Ting Tings, they bring a new vibe in the form of a fun and infectious sound, drawing influence from classic artists, The Rolling Stones, and Dolly Parton.

'Heart Sing' is the band's latest release and quite possibly their catchiest tune to date. With the video featuring a Muppet-esque heart singing, they successfully capture the non-stop party atmosphere that surrounds them when making music.

The video for 'Drum in Your Chest' was the band's favourite video to make. "We got to sit back and watch the group dance-off evolve from rehearsals into the full outdoor monster," they said.
